Welcome to Slow Food Sonoma Valley
Welcome to Slow Food Sonoma Valley
Who are we?
Slow Food Sonoma Valley is one of 225 Slow Food USA chapters which in turn are part of a global, grassroots organization aimed at connecting the pleasure of food with a commitment to community and the environment. Founded in 1989 as a reaction to the rise of fast food and fast life, the Slow Food movement now has more than 100,000 members in 1,300 chapters worldwide.
What do we do?
Because Slow Food operates in 150 countries, its projects, events and activities are highly diverse—from new economic models for sustainable food production to developing networks so farmers, consumers, cooks, academics, and youth and share information and ideas.
Here in the Sonoma Valley, our chapter activities and events are designed primarily to:
•raise public awareness and encourage enjoyment of local foods—seasonal and sustainably grown
•increase understanding of biodiversity and protecting our land for future generations
•advocate for those who grow, market, prepare, and serve wholesome food
•educate children about foods and farming through schools and public programs
•celebrate our region’s foods as a cornerstone of its culture and sense of community
We’re glad you’re here.
